Stratosphere Games is very excited to announce an investment round by Riot Games, 1Up Ventures, and Skycatcher. In addition, the company has also received a new grant from the German Games Fund (“Computerspieleförderung des Bundes”).

The total funds of over 3M Euros will be used for the next step on the product roadmap by developing a cooperative-looter-shooter named “Desolation”. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi world and is designed as a multi-platform title. It will feature a shooter mechanic that will bridge the experience gap between different platforms.

With the new title, the company aims to develop an entire cross-platform IP to finalize the transformation into a major developer and publisher of live games and living worlds. As a first step, we have already increased our headcount to 67 with over 22 nationalities and expect to grow to 100 by end of 2023.

Fall 2022 will see the long-awaited start of this transformation with the release of Homeworld Mobile and the early access of Dawn of Ages. While the former is published by Gearbox Publishing with support from us, the latter will be entirely self-published.

„Project Colonies“ ist eine inhaltliche Erweiterung von „Homeworld Mobile“. Der in sich abgeschlossene herunterladbare Inhalt (DLC) erweitert die Spielwelt und Funktionen des Massive-Multiplayer-Online Games, welches im Juli 2021, im Rahmen eines Soft Launch, veröffentlicht wird. Spieler übernehmen in „Homeworld Mobile“ und später in „Project Colonies“ die Aufgaben eines Kommandanten einer Flotte von Raumschiffen, steuern ein Mutterschiff durch eine unbekannte Galaxie und müssen dabei Aufgaben erfüllen, Ressourcen abbauen, Technologien erforschen, Schiffe konstruieren und verwalten, Offiziere ausbilden und diese sinnvoll einsetzen. In Raids und Missionen können Spieler dabei auf der ganzen Welt zusammenspielen und sich gegenseitig unterstützen.

Die deutsche Spieleförderung unterstützt die Entwicklung mit 364.712,00 €.
